Cutting Off the Breadcrumbs of Hope with Megan Bruneau

August 22, 2019

I’ve been following the incredible Megan Bruneau on Instagram for some time now, and am absolutely delighted to introduce you to her on the podcast today!

Quoted by Deepak Chopra as the “Millennials’ therapist,” Megan’s no-bullshit, relatable voice has garnered over 30m views and landed appearances on The T.D. Jakes Show, Good Morning America and New York 1 Morning News. Transparent about her own mental health, eating disorder history, frequent heartaches and uncertain entrepreneurial life in New York City, Megan’s vulnerable and humorous writing-style has inspired dozens of viral articles – making her a Huffington Post – homepage regular, MindBodyGreen, and Forbes favorite.

Megan has a master of arts in counseling psychology and a bachelor of arts in psychology and social work. With 12+ years experience providing crisis support, therapy, and coaching, she’s a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #6420) in the province of British Columbia and sees clients globally as a coach. By sharing her personal experiences alongside her professional expertise, Megan seeks to change the way people relate to their inner and outer worlds. You can explore more of her wisdom on her Failure Factor Podcast, her YouTube channel, and her columns on Thrillist, Thought Catalog, Gaia, Entrepreneur, Verily and Quartz

Megan and I covered a LOT in this podcast, and she even asked me to open up a little bit about the reasons behind ending my 9-year long term relationship.  We discussed:

  • The breadcrumbs of hope: those reinforcement hits we get when we’re hanging on to a relationship that isn’t serving us, but keeps roping us back in for more
  • Attachment issues, the moments of validation that we search for, and this entire concept of the pain/time continuum that can spike our pain when we think about walking away to the point that it keeps us stuck
  • The cost of compassion and what can happen when we have an overabundance of compassion
  • Loneliness, manipulation, guilt, shame and self-sabotage
  • Compromise vs. boundaries
  • This concept we seem to have that creativity has to come from pain

This entire episode was incredibly special from start to finish, please make sure to connect with Megan and show her some love for coming on!
