Today feels a little…weird.
This isn’t something I’ve talked about much, but I’ve had a full time job in a completely unrelated industry (automotive!) for the past 11 years. I started there part-time as a student, and went full time after I finished university, and I’ve been there ever since. Until this past Friday, which was my last day.
That makes today my first day of full-time entrepreneurship and I don’t think its’ quite sunk in.
I started my business 1.5 years ago and while some would call it my side hustle, it’s been my main focus all along. It’s just been a long journey getting here.
It was never part of my “plan” to stay at my full time job as long as I did, but I don’t think life usually follows our plans.
I always knew that I had different goals, I just wasn’t quite sure how to get there. So, I took a single step forward back in 2012 to get certified as a group fitness instructor. Then as a personal trainer. I started teaching bootcamps, but nutrition was always in the back of my mind, so I was accepted to the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2014 and graduated after completing the two year program. Then I invested (and continue to invest) with business coaches and mentors who have helped me to build my biz.
Creating an online business has been my end game since I first figured out it was a possibility around the time I got my first certification. And I’ve been fortunate enough to have incredible people in my life that have been supportive every step of the way, but ultimately your choices are up to you.
I want you to open yourself up to the possibilities.
Whatever might feel impossible today is within your reach.
Sometimes it’s going to take some time to get there, whether it’s an amazing relationship, a healthy body you’re happy and confident in, a business you want to build or some other goal that has been floating around in the back of your mind for a while before it pops up and you dismiss it, thinking that it’s too over the top, that it’s not meant to be for you.
No. I believe that we can create what we want to have, but it takes a lot of mental strength and believing in yourself to get there….along with some patience, because it’s not going to be a linear journey.
Start slow. Make one single, small change today and that can compound into all of those goals you’ve tucked away and filed under “maybe someday.”
And most importantly, find ways to enjoy the journey! That’s what will make reaching your goals sustainable and fun, which is what I teach when working with 1:1 clients.
