Strength, Body Image & Prioritizing Yourself with Megan Schweitzer

August 23, 2018

I have to tell you a story about today’s guest.

My business coach asked me to make a list of 3 women I admire at the beginning of the year, and the various reasons why I look up to them.  Two of them were women in the online business space, and the third was a personal friend of mine, Meg Schweitzer.

When I was prepping for this interview, I went back to look at what I had written about Meg:

  • Unapologetic about who she is and the career she chose and owning it.
  • Amazing mom to the sweetest/best kids
  • Making self care a priority, being strong/lots of muscle, and not losing sight of her own identity.
  • Highly prioritizes relationship with her husband.
  • Immense strength and resilience, physically and emotionally

We get into ALL of these in the interview.  I have so much respect for Meg, and can’t wait for you to get to know her!

Megan have known each other for years through our partners, and she’s mom to daughter Ryleigh (age 9) and son Klaus (age 5), and is a high school teacher and wrestling coach.

[post continued below]

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Meg chose to start wrestling back in high school (for a very surprising reason!) and wrestled from 1996 – 2008.  She was the first female to win OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association) a total of 4 times, competed on the world team for Canada from 2005 – 2007, is a fifteen time national medalist, won the bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Brazil in 2007 and was the alternate at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008.

PERSONAL LIFE, BODY IMAGE, & GRATITUDE

Meg and I talk about everything from her relationship with the scale over the years and how that’s translated to her current life, how she wants to parent her kids to have a healthy relationship with food, exercise and their bodies, and some of the biggest areas of her life that she prioritizes on a daily basis to show up as the best version of herself.

Given our shared love of lifting heavy weights, it was especially fun to have Meg explain how she embraces being a woman, her feminine side and making muscular sexy.  She breaks down the misconception that continues to linger that women have about getting bulky and looking like a male if they lift weights.

What I love most about this interview is how Meg’s pure appreciation for life shines through, and is such a great reminder to treasure every moment and make the most of the lives we’ve been given, along with the bodies that carry us through it.

There is so much packed into this interview, I can’t wait for you to listen.

Spoiler: by the end of the interview she had me crying.

Big shout out to Meg’s kids Ryleigh and Klaus for whispering and trying to stay quiet during this interview for what must have felt like an eternity, ha!  And to Meg’s sweet dog Shiloh who spent most of the interview trying to curl up on our feet, as close as possible to the action.
