It’s a Priority Problem: How Are You Spending Your Energy?

July 30, 2018

First of all….did you know you can pick a time to have a chat with me, 1:1?  Yep, that’s right, you can book a 30 minute call with me!  I’ll bring my tea, you bring your beverage of choice (coffee, tea, kombucha, wine?!), and we’ll come up with some strategies to help you work through your biggest issue with nutrition, lifestyle, or even simply figuring out where you want your priorities and what they should be.

There are limited spots, and I just opened the ones for August.  Check out my calendar to book your call here!

Ok, onto the podcast episode!

If you’re exhausted, tired of setting goals you don’t meet, don’t know what you want from life, or feel like you have zero time to accomplish what you DO want, this episode is for you.

We claim we have no time to start a business, spend time with loved ones or cook healthy food, but how much time did you spend scrolling Instagram?  Watching TV? Go to the drive-through when it would have been faster to just make something super quickly at home?

I’m going to put this in harsh perspective for you.

How you’re spending your energy is a direct reflection of your priorities.

Many of us are wasting our energy on little things are aren’t helping us with the bigger picture stuff.  Yes, sometimes there is adulting that needs to happen and basic chores to get done, but I’ve found that often when we ask others or ourselves what our priorities are, we start going down our everyday to-do lists.

But what are your BIG PICTURE priorities?  What are those big goals you have for yourself and your life?  Because that’s where the focus needs to be.

What holds you back from your big picture priorities:

  1. Getting stuck in the “how” and allowing yourself to be overwhelmed
  2. Making excuses: Too busy, not enough time, too many obstacles standing in my way
  3. Lack of enjoyment of the journey.

What to do instead to make your priorities part of real life:

  1. Get very clear on the BIG priorities.
  2. Get clear on WHY those are the big priorities.
  3. Start making the journey fun and taking ONE step at a time.
  4. Put yourself on the hook.

The BIG priorities might take some time, and they’re going to redirection of energy to make it happen.

That saying about “good things come to those who wait” is bullshit, because it makes it sound like something will just fall into your lap one day like magic.  Those priorities that seem so unreachable are possible.

It’s about taking the time to figure out how to get there first and going through the steps we talked about.  Remove the overwhelm and stop freaking yourself out, because that will waste your energy and take away from what you really need to focus on.

Ultimately up to YOU to live the life you want.  It’s not going to appear out of thin air, you still have to take the initiative, because no one else will do it for you.  Use your energy wisely.

For the full scoop, be sure to listen to the episode.

And, join the party!  Did you know about the Room to Grow Podcast Facebook group?  It’s the community I’ve created for like-minded women who want to grow and learn from each other, and we even have a bi-monthly book club.  I pop in daily with strategies, tips, trainings and sometimes even bring guests live into the group.  See you in there!

Plus, I’d be honoured if you would take a screenshot of the podcast and tag me over on Instagram @emilygoughcoach!  That way I can get to know you a little better and thank you in real life 😉
